What a wonderful story about Hilo. What impresses me more is the innate friendliness of the local people coupled with beautiful nature. This waht makes it special and unique.

Excellent story of aloha! Merri Monarch can be a crazy time in Hilo. Hopefully, you aren't getting to wet with this recent batch of storms.

Aloha!

I loved your little story about your first night in Hilo. It expresses in one small vignette one of the most endearing attributes of this awesome spot on the planet. I live here and would live nowhere else!

After visiting many places in Hawaii and living in several of them over the years (since '72), Hilo is where my heart is. I'm passionate about spreading the word to the huge number of newcomers that Living Aloha is a must. Already in these last three or four years of unprecedented growth, that elusive feeling is being diluted.

Check my Blog for some of the discussions where I stay on that soap box!

Much aloha to you!

Thanks for this info. My husband & I are coming to Hawaii in February for our honeymoon, and are in great need of doing this as cheaply as possible. We already have a good deal on a room, but would welcome any suggestions of inexpensive "must sees" and fun things to do.
thank you
